[January 2000] This car was listed as owned by "Clark" in the USA in Martin Bennet's "Bentley Continental." [Update June 2000] In the spring and summer of 2000, it was offered for sale by Vintage Motors of Sarasota (Florida) for $86,000... In a phone conversation, the selling dealer described the car as refurbished, done over, nice looking, with filler in lower quarter, dark blue paint is nice, not show quality, leather looks re-dyed, engine has been rebuilt and detailed, no air conditioning, problems with starter, leaky fuel pump, bad brakes. Odomoter shows 06139. [Update July 2001] Most of the mechanical issues with BC15LAR have been corrected, and the car has returned to Sarasota Classic Car Museum (owned by Vintage). It will return for sale at a future date. Contact: Martin [Update May 2002] Notes from RickCarey.com on the Christies Auction at Rockefeller Center, New York on May 18, 2002: Lot # 42 1959 Bentley S2 Continental Drophead Coupe; Body by Park Ward; S/N BC15LAR; Ice Blue / Navy Blue leather; Estimate $60,000 - $80,000; Visually maintained, largely original, 3 condition; Not sold at Hammer bid of $48,000 -- Fog lights, single headlights. Decent older repaint, good interior, chrome and wood. Used car in presentable condition. -- Here again, the last little increment of bidding enthusiasm may have been inhibited by Christie's 17.5% commission which would add $10,500 on top of a bid at the $60K low estimate, barely "reasonable" for this car.
